By Mary Ogle /

7. The Soldier And The Rebel

Danny is not fooled by the Doctor€™s manipulation. He€™s been in this situation before and he recognizes a superior officer when he sees one. He knows exactly what the Doctor is doing. He concedes the Doctor€™s influence makes Clara a stronger person but he worries about the cost. He knows the Doctor€™s zeal may push Clara too far. The Doctor has faith in his companions but he does not have control. He knows he puts them in dangerous situations and he feels guilty about it but that does not stop him from doing it. The Doctor is a contradiction €“ both insubordinate and officer. Danny distrusts authority but does not yet acknowledge the rebel. He has trouble seeing beyond his own past experience. The Doctor and Danny have labeled each other and that limits their perceptions. They are more alike than they would like to admit.
