Doctor Who: Sex Education Star Ncuti Gatwa Cast As The 14th Doctor

It's been a long, excruciating wait, filled with rumours, speculation, and even more rumours. But now, that wait is finally over: we have our Fourteenth Doctor.
On Sunday afternoon, the BBC announced that Sex Education star Ncuti Gatwa has been cast as the next incarnation of the Time Lord, who will take over from Jodie Whittaker when she regenerates later this year.
"There aren’t quite the words to describe how I’m feeling", said Gatwa, speaking about the role. "A mix of deeply honoured, beyond excited and of course a little bit scared. Unlike the Doctor, I may only have one heart but I'm giving it all to this show.”
Russell T Davies - who is returning as Doctor Who's boss in 2023, 18 years after he successfully relaunched the show with Christopher Eccleston - added "Ncuti dazzled us, seized hold of the Doctor, and owned those TARDIS keys in seconds. It’s an honour to work with him, and a hoot, I can’t wait to get started."
Gatwa rose to prominence playing Eric Effiong in the raunchy Netflix series Sex Education, which has aired three seasons to date, with a fourth on the way.
On top of that, the 29-year-old actor will also be seen in Warner Bros.' upcoming Barbie movie, which features Margot Robbie as the lead, and Ryan Gosling as Ken.
That pic is currently slated for July 2023, and with Doctor Who's 60th anniversary taking place a few months later, Gatwa is going to have quite the year.
