The Simpsons: 20 Greatest Couch Gags

By Joseph Dempsey /

3. Guillermo del Toro

If you thought the Rocky and Bullwinkle or Banksy intros were creepy, just wait until you get a load of this. Last month, Pacific Rim director Guillermo Del Toro directed the above, two-and-a-half minute long couch gag for the Simpsons for October's annual Treehouse of Horror episode. Instead of blue skies and parting white clouds, the intro opens with a thunderstorm and a three-eyed-black bird, which gives some indication of what's to come. In the sequence, Simpsons' police chief Clancy Wiggum becomes a giant Cyclops, the army attempt to fend off a horde of zombies and 'Lard Lad' comes to life, smashing a car with his giant doughnut. One of the freakiest intros we've seen, and one of the best, too.
