Star Trek: Generations was a landmark film. It would serve as the first Next Generation-era film, while passing the torch from the Original Series of films. To allow for this, the opening scene features the maiden voyage of the brand new Excelsior class Enterprise-B.

Necessity forced a change in the original filming model of the USS Excelsior. To facilitate the destruction caused by the Nexus, additional struts were added on either side of the deflector dish that could then be damaged - however, the filming model was damaged regardless.
This model would make a further appearance in Star Trek Deep Space Nine in the episode Paradise Lost as the USS Lakota. To date, these are the only two appearances of the beautiful redesign.
