Star Trek: Every Starfleet Uniform Ranked From WORST To BEST
19. Lower Decks California-Class Uniform - Early 2380s
The uniform in service while the California-class USS Cerritos was zipping through space was based on an abandoned design from Star Trek: Generations. Robert Blackman had created a double-breasted uniform for the crew of the Enterprise-D, though in that film, the idea was scrapped - after the designs had been sent to Playmates.
It was rescued and adapted for Lower Decks. They were described by Character Design Lead Marisa Livingston, in the Lower Decks Season 3 Premiere Special episode of The Ready Room, as a California-class uniform, suggesting that it was unique to that class of vessel.
Lt. Paris, the crew of the Archimedes, and even flashback scenes with Mariner showed other officers in the standard grey-shouldered jumpsuit, so this uniform could have been reserved for certain sections of the fleet. A variant was in use by several flag officers, though, including Admiral Alonso Freeman.
While one of the dress variants was simply this uniform with a longer top, several more variations popped up on the Cerritos, as well as ornamentations like lab coats, baldrics, and religious headgear.
