7. The Tenth Doctor's First Appearance Was The Christmas Invasion

On Christmas Day 2005, the universe was properly introduced to the Tenth Doctor.

The Christmas Invasion is often cited as the first time David Tennant really got a chance to play the role and show what sort of man he'd be – but we actually got our first taste of the Tenth Doctor way before we all had a Christmas dinner food coma.

It's become less common over the last decade but Doctor Who used to regularly show off clips and minisodes during charity telethons like Children in Need and Comic Relief. This is how we got the great meeting between Doctors Five and Ten in Time Crash, as well as the minisodes Space and Time during the Eleventh Doctor's run.

During Children in Need in November 2005, a minisode called Born Again was broadcast, which was set between The Parting of the Ways and The Christmas Invasion and gave us our first full look at David Tennant's Tenth Doctor.

It's a great episode that helps explain regeneration, explores how the relationship between Rose and the Doctor will handle their new dynamic, and sets the scene for the Christmas special. As it stands, they appear in London at Christmas for no discernible reason.

It was also the first time Billie Piper and David Tennant worked together on the show, as Piper wasn't actually on set for Tennant's first shot at the end of The Parting of the Ways!

Considering that it's a charity special it's no surprise Born Again is largely forgotten, but unlike a lot of other Children in Need and Comic Relief scenes, this one is actually a vital part of the show's chronology.
