10 Awesome WWE PPV Names That Should Return

By Matt Davis /

2. The Wrestling Classic

Currently, this one may seem unlikely to return because of the use of the taboo word "wrestling" that appears in the title. As disappointing and damn near disturbing a thought as it is to think about, Vince McMahon, despite being it's greatest promoter and most influential figure of all, doesn't want to be associated with wrestling. Perhaps when Triple H takes the full reigns one day, things may change as all signs point to The Game embracing the unavoidable fact that WWE is a pro-wrestling company. WWE, and even NXT for that matter, are not strictly professional wrestling companies as they absolutely do dabble in other forms of entertainment, but it's the pro-wrestling fanbase that their primary revenue source originates from. So what better event name to have than one that puts all the focus on the actual wrestling? As much as WWE may not want to focus too much on the in-ring performances, they do have some of the most talented wrestlers on the planet working for them, making a PPV entitled "The Wrestling Classic" very appropriate. It would also hype the WWE's core audience of pro-wrestling fans by promoting an event that, by name alone, implies that the workrate and in-ring storytelling will be the very best. The original Wrestling Classic PPV was centered around a tournament, but a new Wrestling Classic PPV (how about that name,"The New Wrestling Classic"?) would not need to be, This event name is one that is sorely missed but, unfortunately for the vast majority of WWE's audience of wrestling fans, it's likely to stay that way.
