10 Awesome WWE PPV Names That Should Return

By Matt Davis /

1. Backlash

Was there ever a more appropriate name for a PPV than the one given to the yearly April event that followed WrestleMania? Every Spring WWE puts on their biggest show of the year and for a decade the Backlash PPV was the event that succeed the Showcase of the Immortals. There's little doubt that it was a perfect name for the event. Oftentimes, Backlash would host WrestleMania rematches but perhaps with additional stakes or stipulations added. The event's title did a great job of setting the stage for what fans should expect. It wasn't going to be a fresh start or a clean slate with which to see new rivalries and storylines, rather, it was the fallout from WrestleMania and the superstars were often out to get their revenge, or suffer a backlash. After eliminating the PPV name in 2010, WWE created the Extreme Rules PPV as its replacement. It has a similar feel, but Extreme Rules presented matches without rules that would allow superstars to physically show their frustrations and continue their storylines from WrestleMania. The Extreme Rules name isn't the worst name that WWE has come up with, but there's no way it should have replaced Backlash as the late April PPV and it will never be considered the best PPV name for the sequel to WrestleMania - that honour belongs to Backlash.
