Roman Reigns' third WWE Championship reign did not get off to the best start.

His match with Triple H at WrestleMania 32 was the absolute pits; a long, boring affair with a result that nobody wanted. Reigns would have to work incredibly hard to make this title reign worth a damn, but luckily, that's exactly what he did.

The first two defences were against AJ Styles, which is always a formula for a good time. Reigns vs. Styles at Payback and then Extreme Rules were both spectacular. Not did AJ get to prove himself at the top level, but Roman also showed that, while his character sucked, he was very talented.

Reigns eventually lost the belt to his old pal Seth Rollins in his return match at Money in the Bank. This was absolutely fantastic, one of the best matches of the year, bringing the championship run to a satisfying conclusion.

He might not have won the title in a great match, but the future Tribal Chief more than made up for that over the next few months.
