10 Biggest Wrestling Scandals Of The 2010s
9. The Death Of Perro Aguayo Jr.
Perro Aguayo Jr. was (as you might expect) the son of legendary Mexican wrestler Perro Aguayo. The younger star carved his own path in wrestling, particularly through the 'Los Perros del Mal' faction that WWE have recently revived in AAA.
Aguayo Jr. was wrestling for The Crash promotion in Mexico on March 20th 2015 when disaster struck. During a tag team match against Rey Mysterio and Xtreme Tiger, he took a dropkick from Mysterio that was supposed to set him up for the 619. As was discovered at a later date, the kick had accidentally caused serious trauma to Aguayo's spine, which sent him into cardiac arrest.
Perro Aguayo Jr. was pronounced dead in hospital at 1am on March 21st. He was just 35 years old. It's important to note that this was a complete freak accident. Aguayo's family have publicly forgiven Mysterio and no criminal charges were ever filed. This devastating moment is proof that wrestlers risk their lives every single time they get in the ring. Even the simplest spot can go horribly wrong and result in the most dire of consequences.
