10 Biggest Wrestling Scandals Of The 2010s
7. Ashley Massaro’s Death
WWE fans would be forgiven for not remembering Ashley Massaro. The winner of the 2005 Diva Search, she worked for the company for three years, most notably competing for the Women's Championship at WrestleMania 23 and her role in the Mickie James-Trish Stratus feud of 2006.
On May 16th 2019, the world learned that Massaro had died at the age of 39. This sparked a very unpleasant discussion about her time in WWE.
Massaro had made allegations that she was sexual assaulted while working for WWE. It also came out after her death that she had accused Vince McMahon of preying on female wrestlers, all of which makes her apparent suicide even more tragic.
This horrific incident brought back just how awful it must have been to be a female wrestler in the 2000s. Sexual misconduct and unsafe working conditions were allegedly rife within the industry at the time, especially in Vince McMahon's WWE. Massaro was just one of many victims of this awful period that must never ever be repeated.
