9. Mandy Rose Fired

WWE controlling its performers' third-party interests became a massive talking point in the 2020s. With more wrestlers taking to platforms like Twitch, the company tried to exercise control over what they got up to off the clock. 

The prime example of this is the case of Mandy Rose. Following a return to NXT, Rose captured the brand's Women's Championship and held it for 413 days between 2021 and 2022. On the December 13th edition of NXT, Rose lost the belt to Roxanne Perez. One day later, she was fired. 

It transpired that WWE had become uncomfortable with Rose's activity on FanTime - not OnlyFans, as some people seemed to believe. The promotion had supposedly taken issue with the sexualised content on Rose's page, although it could have also been that she was making hundreds of thousands of dollars and they weren't seeing a cent. 

This incident reignited an ugly debate over double standards in wrestling. Was Shawn Michaels punished when he posed naked for PlayGirl in the 1990s? Absolutely not. And wasn't Rose pushed as a sexpot on TV?

Rose hasn't returned to wrestling since being let go, and seems to be doing just fine on her own.
