Arguably the most unhinged moment in WWE video game history was 2K releasing 2K20 in the state they did. Oh, that's right. Get the jokes in early! Seriously though, even the buggiest of bugs couldn't prepare players who plonked down cold, hard cash that year. They were in for a wacky treat, and they didn't even know it.

One of the wildest storylines in WWE gaming history occurred.

That's the topic at hand here. Ever played through the latest title and wondered if the developers had been up all night partying with RVD? WWE video games have included zombies, possession, bionic arms, the brutal slaying of innocent construction workers and a unique peek into the future from one Vince McMahon.

The old boss definitely had designs on WWE Network when he slapped a seal of approval on the story for old vehicular combat gem Crush Hour. He might've needed a slap himself for green-lighting what THQ did with the story mode in N64 classic No Mercy though. Honestly, what were they thinking?!

Get ready for the absurd, the terrifying and the downright shocking. WWE gaming has been wild for a long time!

10. Matt Hardy Takes You To His Multiverse (WWE 2K19)

More jokes incoming, because it seems Matt Hardy might've taken the team who worked on 2K20 to his multiverse and left them there. Before the proverbial hit the fan and the series needed a hard reset (praise be to 2K22 for establishing a new standard), WWE 2K19 brought the weird to fans via MyCareer. It was some buzz for your character... Buzz.

In the story, your made-up grappler needs a counterpoint to combat Bray Wyatt's twisted mind games, so he trusts Matt's 'Broken' gimmick and visits said multiverse. That was his first mistake. What ensues is a cartoonish collection of insane cutscenes, but they'd be nothing without Hardy putting his all into the voiceover performance. Someone must've given that dude caffeine and sugar before hitting the recording booth.

He was on fire.

You'd be forgiven for wondering why any of this was necessary, but why not? 2K had been getting a wee bit of stick from gamers for keeping things mild in more recent entries to the franchise. So, they decided to go all out bizarre and whisk players off to a dreamland inspired by Matt's alter ego.
