For nearly a year from 2009 into 2010, CM Punk preached his beliefs on the WWE Universe by forming his "Straight Edge Society." Within the confines of this cult, one must shave their head bald and take on a sober lifestyle. While the part about sober living might be a positive piece to the puzzle of the Straight Edge Society, CM Punk took on the role of a "Jesus-like" character by leading this stable. He changed his look by growing his hair long and dying it black, growing a thick beard and even stating on documentaries that he was trying to be "wrestling Jesus." Bible thumpers probably weren't all that pleased with Punk's attempt to portray Jesus Christ within the confines of the squared circle, but damn was it effective. Would CM Punk have emerged as a genuine main eventer if it wasn't for how he grasped the opportunity of this gimmick when it was available.
