10 Dream WWE Matches (That Will Never Happen)

2. CM Punk Vs. Randy Savage

CM Punk added the Savage Elbow to his arsenal after Macho Man’s passing, and he has spoken of his admiration for the late star. Back in the '80s, while Hogan and the other giants headlined events, Savage stole the show with his run of incredible performances - something Punk could certainly relate to.

Savage’s WWE heyday was renowned for the pace of his in-ring action, with his intricately plotted and brilliantly worked matches a rejoinder to the more rote and repetitive bouts of his competitors. Punk, similarly, stood out from the more traditional faces of his day with his varied arsenal of grappling and MMA strikes. Both had great gimmicks that couldn’t help but get over, whether face or heel. A dream booking - say 1987 Savage vs. 2011 Punk - would boast a flat out contest between two all time talents who really understood what wrestling was all about.

This one is the stuff of fantasy, of course, and no doubt would be for Punk, too. He has been out of the game for a good long while now, but if and when he gets back in the ring, let’s hope he can find an opponent of similar calibre.
