10 Most Ambitious WWE Shows Ever
7. SmackDown Live
WWE were in a quandary in early 2016.
They had amassed the most stacked roster ever assembled in a modern wrestling company, but their television product was stagnant. This was especially true for SmackDown, which had increasingly dire ratings and attendance thanks to the end of the brand split a few years prior.
Thus, the decision was made not only to bring back the brand split and give SmackDown its own roster, but to move it's airing to live on Tuesday instead of taping on Tuesday and airing it on Thursday or Friday. This meant that WWE would now offer its regular programming two nights in a row for five total hours of live content each week (double that on PPV weekends). Quite a gamble in terms of expecting such great audience investment. While, once again, WWE has seen its share of creative problems by reintroducing the brand split, it's a bold move on their part to go with this format for SmackDown.
It may still have a B-show vibe, but now that it's live and the night after RAW, SmackDown has never felt more important or prominent.
