10 New Directions For WWE After Night Of Champions 2026

5. Gunther Wrestling Nick Aldis?!

This is an insane thought, but nothing is truly off limits in pro wrestling.

Night Of Champions had just gone off the air when there was a confrontation between Gunther and Nick Aldis on the post-show. That fraught altercation was followed by panelists suggesting that this could be “leading to something more”. Interesting.

Gunther fumed at the SmackDown GM and said he’s “f***ing jealous” because he’s a “failed wrestler”. Language, Walter! For crying out loud, big man. There's no need for all those asterisks just 'cause you watched Sami Zayn win a WWE Title you yourself wanted to win. That's something Gunther has pinned blame on Aldis for.

There were rumblings earlier in the year about Nick coming out of soft retirement to wrestle Drew McIntyre before the big Scot waltzed off to shoot a new Highlander flick and heal up bruises from the road. That didn't come to anything. Will this? It remains to be seen, but there isn't much else for Gunther to do at SummerSlam unless he's suddenly going toe to toe with Brock Lesnar.

If Aldis is concerned about stepping back into the ring, then WWE can furnish him with all the bells, whistles and distractions he needs when brawling with a 'Ring General' like Gunther. They don't have to produce some 30-minute strong style classic. Nah, true beauty will come from overall atmosphere, and the novelty of seeing former TNA man Magnus do his thing inside a WWE ring on a top tier PLE like SummerSlam.

Time to push back, Nicky boy.
