10 Predictions For NXT After TakeOver: Toronto

4. A New Championship

This is a rather unlikely suggestion but it comes from a long-standing problem in NXT: there isn't a whole lot for male singles competitors to do outside of the main title picture.

More than ever NXT has a solid base of mid-card talent including Roode, Almas, Itami, No Way Jose, Young and Dillenger, and the fact is that at any time one or more of these guys could push into the title scene. But the ones that don't end up in a sort of purgatory, wrestling each other without a whole lot of fanfare while simply waiting for a main roster call up.

But if you compare the main roster exploits of Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn to say, Apollo Crews or Baron Corbin, you'll see that when your time in NXT is meaningful this will carry over into Raw and SmackDown. But like Crews, if your NXT run is spent in relatively meaningless feuds people won't expect much from your main roster call-up.

It may not be the best way to tackle this but creating a mid-card title for NXT is at least one way to keep talent busy in a meaningful way outside of the title picture. That way when Almas or Young make it to the main roster we'll actually have some legitimate intrigue to their backstory which helps give them much-needed momentum.
