10 Things That Didn't Go The Way WWE Wanted

5. The Shield's Return

This one wasn't WWE's fault at all, but nevertheless...

It seemed like they were trying to do something long-term with The Shield in 2017. The assumption was that all three would hold gold at the same time; they quickly put the tag team championships on Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins and were likely going to put a singles championship on Roman Reigns.

Sadly, within weeks of their official reunion, Reigns went down with a case of viral meningitis. He was replaced by Kurt Angle in their match with The Miz and The Bar at the upcoming Tables, Ladders, & Chairs PPV. A bit of an anticlimactic WWE in-ring return for Angle, but I digress.

After Reigns returned, the trio wrestled a few matches together, including an enjoyable bout with The New Day at Survivor Series. Less than a month later, before he and Seth Rollins could regain the tag titles from The Bar, Dean Ambrose suffered a serious triceps injury that is set to keep him on the shelf until late summer. With that, The Shield's nostalgia run was over.

Well... it was fun while it lasted, even if it only lasted a couple of weeks.
