10 Things Wrestling Fans Fully Expected To Happen In 2020 (That Still Haven't)

4. The Big Dog Vs. The Fiend - WrestleMania 36

When The Fiend was making Seth Rollins cry in the corner like a lost child, the endgame seemed fairly obvious. It wasn't going to be Rollins getting eventual retribution on the new Bray Wyatt; it was going to be The Big Dog. Enter Goldberg.

Truth be told, the only duo more iconic than WWE and WrestleReigns-ia may well be 'Vince McMahon and stars of the past'. Nostalgia is strong with Vince, and the boss rarely passes up an opportunity to put a legend over at the expense of the future. Goldberg returned and defeated Wyatt for the Universal Championship at Super ShowDown, doing so in less than three minutes. The Architect's tears were for nought. Roman Reigns confronted Goldberg on the next episode of SmackDown, and Reigns vs. Goldberg was signed for WrestleMania 36.

Enter COVID-19.

The coronavirus pandemic was enough for Reigns to take a short leave of absence from WWE, which led to Braun Strowman being shoe-horned into the Universal Championship picture for the Showcase of the Immortals. A combination of shiny old trinkets and an actual plague meant a WrestleMania main event of Bray Wyatt vs. Roman Reigns became Braun Strowman vs. Goldberg.
