10 Things You Didn’t Know About Kurt Angle
10. Two-Time NCAA Champion
On top of all of those earlier accolades, there’s one that’s
often missed off the list and, given that it came during his collegiate
days, it’s arguably more newsworthy than anything he’s since achieved in the
world of professional wrestling.
While WWE are usually quick to tell you about Brock Lesnar’s NCAA Division 1 Heavyweight Championship win - or at least, Paul Heyman is - far less fuss is made of Angle’s accomplishments in the very same field. Also, unlike Lesnar, he’s actually managed to win two separate NCAA championships.
In both 1990 and 1992, Angle was crowned a NCAA Division I Champion whilst attending Clarion University of Pennsylvania.
And as far as I can tell, that’s enough to make him the only two-time NCAA champion in WWE history. Feel free to call me out on that one, but with NCAA crossover stars like Lesnar and Jack Swagger unable to match Angle’s trophy haul, that puts him very much in a class of his own.
