3. Steve Lombardi Came Up With The Gore

Starting out with WWE in 2001, Rhyno (WWE's way of copyrighting the name 'Rhino') rapidly became a great mid-card attraction, notably having a fantastic Hardcore Title match with fellow ECW alumni Raven at Backlash 2001. WWE was bizarro world in '01, as it seemed every week would bring about a face wrestling fans recognised from either WCW or ECW crash-landing on WWE television. Using a Piledriver to finish off opponents in ECW, Terry Gerin was struggling to come up with a suitable finish for his matches in WWE, as the Piledriver was deemed too dangerous to be used regularly. Working a series of house show matches against longtime veteran of the WWE system, Steve Lombari, Gerin was using a spear to cut off any babyface comebacks. One night, Lombardi gave Rhyno a crucial piece of advice, advising him to simply pin him after the spear, instead of following up with a Piledriver. The Gore was born, one of the better-received finishing moves of the time period in the promotion, and Gerin has been using it to great effect across the world ever since.
