10 UFC Fights That Did Not Go To Plan

3. Conor McGregor Makes Quick Work Of Jose Aldo (UFC 194)

One man alone had reigned over the Featherweight division since the weight class was brought to the UFC back in 2010 and his name was Jose Aldo.

Aldo had beaten everyone from Chad Mendes to Frankie Edgar and was regarded as the greatest Featherweight of all time by fans and fighters alike.

After beating Mendes for a second time, Irish sensation Conor McGregor was set up as Aldo's next opponent at UFC 189. However, Aldo eventually went down injured and Mendes jumped in as a last minute replacement. McGregor then won the bout and became Interim Featherweight Champion.

It was a nice moment for McGregor and the company were quite happy to see the loudmouth Irishman with gold around his waist. Yet, many still felt that his time at the top would be brief and as soon as he was faced with the legendary Aldo he'd quickly be found out.

Remarkably, McGregor washed away all doubt when the pair finally met at UFC 194, downing the Champion and establishing himself as the next big thing in just 13 seconds.

Aldo had looked indomitable for ten years straight, but McGregor didn't care. He changed the game with one left hand and the UFC changed their plans for the future accordingly.
