7. WWE Hell In A Cell

The Hell In A Cell match has to be one of the greatest creations in all of wrestling. Foreboding, violent and only wheeled out on special occasions, the cell carried weight with grappling fans, who knew they were going to see something special once a Hell In A Cell match was booked. In 2009, WWE forever changed how fans would view the match type, by booking an entire Pay-Per-View around it. Slightly different to TNA's Lockdown event, Hell In A Cell didn't place every single bout inside the confines of the cage, instead only booking three 'main events' to take place inside the steel. CM Punk vs. The Undertaker, John Cena vs. Randy Orton and D-Generation X vs. Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase Jr all took place inside the Hell In A Cell, but there was something missing from the show. Yes, all three matches were watchable, but the atmosphere of the cell was all but gone. The matches lacked the violence and blood of previous encounters, and fans picked up on this new sanitised cell format straight away. WWE are still running with the concept of Hell In A Cell as a fully fledged Pay-Per-View today, to diminishing returns of interest on the cell matches themselves, again negating the entire purpose to begin with.
