10 Worst WWE Championship Reigns Of The 2010s
7. Rey Mysterio (July 2011)
David Bowie once sang, "We can be WWE Champion, just for one day."
He must have been talking about Rey Mysterio.
Despite two reigns with the World Heavyweight Championship, the legendary luchador had never been trusted with the most important prize. That changed on the July 25th 2011 episode of Raw. Mysterio was in the final of a tournament to crown a new champion in the wake of CM Punk absconding at Money in the Bank. He beat The Miz to finally get his gloved hands on the bejewelled title.
And then came John Cena.
Like the big heel he was, Cena challenged Rey - who had just finished a gruelling match - to a title match that same night. Just a few hours after he'd won it, Mysterio lost the belt to the Peacemaker in humiliating fashion.
If that wasn't bad enough, Punk then made his return straight away, relegating Rey even further down the pecking order. While it's nice that he got to add his name to the list of champions, Mysterio's singular WWE title run was not befitting his legendary status.
