10 Worst WWE Moments Of 2004
6. Heidenreich Pins Michael Cole To A Wall
Oh no.
Every wrestling writer is cursed to talk about this moment every so often. It's one longstanding announce great Michael Cole would really rather people forgot, but that's not going to happen. Sorry, Mikey - your panicked facial expressions shall live on for the rest of time and that's that. Honestly? It'd be for the best had none of this been penned for the 16 September 2004 SmackDown in the first place.
Scary brute Heidenreich pinned Cole to a wall backstage and began reciting poetry. Then, the future Legion Of Doom member implied that he might well sexually assault SmackDown's play-by-plan man. The entire thing was unsettling, to say the least. It's puzzling too. What was any of this supposed to accomplish? Did WWE want Cole to slap on an orange singlet earlier than planned for a one-on-one bout vs. Heidenreich?
Or did they simply want to present him as a rampaging monster who also doubled up as a possible sex pest as he schemed wicked thoughts for the rest of the announce team? No-one will ever know, but that thumbnail you see above has been posted endlessly on social media since apps like Twitter/X, Facebook and Instagram were created.
People can't get enough of reminding others about how foul some of WWE's fare was a generation or so ago. It's probs a sneaky positive that Heidenreich didn't go on to become some rip-roaring success, because no-one would ever let him live this moment down either.
No amount of top matches or WWE Title wins could overcome implied Cole mining.
