10 Worst WWE Moments Of 2007
6. K-Fed Beats John Cena
In 2010, WWE kicked off the year's first Raw episode by bringing back Bret Hart. Granted, his eventual WrestleMania match vs. Vince McMahon was a low point and the return bombed almost immediately, but seeing the 'Hitman' back on TV was at least something major. 3 years earlier, the braintrust had decreed that something else shocking should jump start 2007 on the flagship show.
You might've forgotten all about this, but it happened.
Rapper Kevin Federline defeated John Cena on the new year edition of Raw. Their 5 minute 'No Disqualification' match opened the show too, which was a bold decision. WWE had a celeb best-known for being tied to Britney Spears beat the reigning WWE Champion in the year's very first match. Imagine they'd tried that with Travis Scott in 2025 (and Scott is a bigger star than K-Fed ever was).
Others, like Umaga and Johnny Nitro ran in to help Federline out, but this was still quite the choice from the creative team. Thank God we didn't see K-Fed return as part of Cena's lengthy retirement tour. That might've finished the fanbase off after his botched heel turn and some of the unwanted matches JC was working on PLE.
Sure, this was still fairly early on in Cena's career, but he was a top guy by 2007, so it was frankly out there to see someone like Kevin Federline rush in for a few spots and score a win over the literal WWE Champ. Think about this: The promotion went back to back on K-Fed beating Cena and the aforementioned "Trump" vs. "O'Donnell" slapstick in consecutive weeks.
