If any professional wrestlers need to learn lessons from someone on how not to let personal demons take hold of their professional careers, they should give Jake Roberts a call. The very blueprint for what many people suspect about the wrestling industry, Roberts was an angry drunk who let drugs and alcohol take control of his life in the 90's. Jake 'The Snake' Roberts has often been used by those who dislike the wrestling business as an example of the negativity prevalent in the industry, but in fairness to Roberts, he has always stood up and said he had nobody to point the finger at but himself for the way his career panned out. Appearing in the Beyond The Mat documentary, Jake's story is harrowing. In the span of just a few years, Roberts went from a major star to an overweight nostalgia act, tumbling down the pecking order and being an embarrassment to himself on more than one occasion in public, all because of his drug and alcohol dependency. There can be little doubt that Roberts didn't make the most of his talents, but thankfully he seems to be in a better place nowadays.
