10 WWE Matches Guaranteed To Put A Smile On Your Face
5. Bret Hart Vs The British Bulldog (Summerslam 2002)
If it’s not the biggest crowd reaction in WWE history, it’s certainly one of them - a packed-out Wembley celebrating the British Bulldog’s title win over brother-in-law Bret Hart results in one of the most joyful rackets in wrestling, and a career highlight for an often underrated performer.
The particular quirks of the British crowd give this match a unique vibe (air horns blare throughout), but there was nowhere more suited than Wembley Stadium to host. Hart and Davey Boy make 30 minutes fly by as they crash into each other, with great sequences of counters and a well-worked clash of styles, Bulldog’s power versus the Hitman’s precision.
Hart has claimed that the Bulldog was intoxicated in the ring, and while it’s a little hard to believe that given the match they put on, there’s no doubt the late Dave Smith had more than his share of demons. He should have been inducted into the WWE Hall Of Fame this year, so failing that, this crowning glory is a perfect way to celebrate the man’s much-missed talents.
