In 1993, Hulk Hogan returned to the World Wrestling Federation. Fans were excited to see him, but the 'Hulkster' didn't seem to quite have the drawing power he had once commanded. Regardless, the decision was made to put the WWF Heavyweight belt on him at WrestleMania IX. The supercard is often derided by fans as one of the worst in history, capped off by 2 title changes within just a few short minutes. Bret Hart had lost the strap to the mammoth Yokozuna in the main event of the show. Having won the Royal Rumble, Yoko was the WWF's top monster heel, and he looked unstoppable. That was ruined in an instant by what happened next. Coming to Hart's aid, Hogan was nonsensically challenged by Yokozuna's manager, Mr. Fuji. Accepting, Hulk won the title. This was absurd, because Hogan would later drop the title back to Yokozuna at the King Of The Ring just a few months later. There was no real need to put the belt on Hulk, it didn't achieve anything of any note. It might have made sense to have him feud with Bret Hart, but he was instead squashed by Yoko in an unsatisfactory mid card outing. Hogan didn't need the title, and beating Yokozuna in seconds at 'Mania didn't help the big Samoan either.
