On this week's Monday Night Raw, the 'Samoan Submission Machine' had something of a glint in his eye as he announced that the planned summit between himself and Roman Reigns had to be cancelled. Much like his aggression towards the 'Big Dog' during a Raw Reunion pull-apart and match the prior week, Joe's key to actually winning an important match for once lay in lulling Reigns into a false sense of security.
On SmackDown Live, all he had to do was lull him into the right spot.
The former Universal Champion was left flattened by some backstage equipment thanks - so we were led to believe - to a mystery assailant. The calculated attack took place as Roman headed over to be Kayla Braxton's guest at this time - he took a truss to the mush before he got the chance to announce his SummerSlam opponent in the main event segment of the penultimate SmackDown Live before the 'Biggest Party Of The Summer'.
But - and in merely asking this question WWE have managed to achieve everything they wanted from what was surely a last minute rewrite stall - Whodunnit?!
10. The OCs
The OCs ended what should have been a celebratory Monday Night Raw in a sour mood as result of a Roman Reigns-related show-closing brawl. Ahead of him announcing who he intended to face at the 'Biggest Party Of The Summer', could they have been looking to force his hand, or force him off the card altogether?
Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson both suffered the impact of Cedric Alexander's dive from the TitanTron as the former 205 Live star arrived on the scene to help out 'The Big Dog' in his time of need. It followed a cancelled "Samoan Summit" - something they presumably wanted nothing to do with whilst attempting imbibe the trappings of their past life in the Far East.
The new tag team champions had been enjoying sushi with United States Champion AJ Styles before it all kicked off, but found themselves dragged into a scuffle that had the last hour of Monday's show resembling something more akin to Royal Rumble time than SummerSlam season. Might it have been their intention to return the blue brand to the shock and awe of Eric Bischoff's era with this backstage assault during his first show on the job?
