12 Times WWE Brutally CANCELLED World Championship Reigns

8. Rob Van Dam

This one's a little different, in the sense that Rob Van Dam actually did win the WWE Championship (alongside the revived ECW World Heavyweight Championship, if anybody cares), but his reign was cut short after just three weeks.

Why?

Weed. And lots of it.

Alongside Sabu, the dual champion was travelling from an ECW live event in Huntington, West Virginia, to the next episode of Raw in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. That's a roughly eight-hour drive, so to make the time pass by, the former ECW World Tag Team Champions opted to light it up, resulting in them being pulled over after they were caught driving at 73mph in a 55mph zone. Officers found Van Dam to be in possession of 18mg of marijuana and five Vicodin pills, and though he was never formally arrested and charged, he still faced a thirty-day unpaid suspension; this included being booked to drop the WWE Title to Edge earlier than planned, as well as the ECW belt to The Big Show.

Once he returned, Rob Van Dam never again reached the peak of the WWE mountaintop.
