20 WTF WCW Moments

8. The 'Finger Poke Of Doom'

In early-1999, WCW fans were bracing themselves for a long-awaited collision. Previously, Kevin Nash and Hollywood Hogan had been united as part of the nWo, but they'd splintered off to form their own groups. Nash had the nWo 'Wolfpac', and Hogan was chief of the nWo 'Hollywood' branch. On January 4th, 1999, Nash was supposed to defend the World Title against Goldberg on Nitro. In storyline, Goldberg was arrested, so Hogan was installed as the opponent instead. Announcer Tony Schiavone remarked before the match began that this was what WCW was all about. Little did he know just how right he was, because the company was making a terrible habit of irritating their core fan base. Instead of a showdown between the warring nWo faction leaders, people saw a swerve occur. Poking Nash in the chest, Hogan pinned his apparent buddy. The whole thing had been a set-up, but it once again devalued the WCW World Title. Jumping to their feet, Nash and Hulk were reunited, but fans felt cheated. Making matters worse, the incident took place inside the Georgia Dome, where people had earlier witnessed Goldberg win the title.
