4. Otis Is A Dope
Does anyone out there recall a single, solitary interaction involving Alpha Academy where Otis expressed having feelings for Maxxine Dupri?
Despite being part of the same stable for three years, Otis has never been seen pining for Maxxine, which makes the entire crux of Alpha Academy’s feud with The Vision a complete dud. WWE is trying to retcon Otis and Dupri’s partnership into the big Dozer being a hopeless romantic who just wants to woo Maxxine and win her back.
It’s simultaneously pathetic and nonsensical, and it treats Dupri like she’s a prop to be won (Austin Theory didn’t help things later when he yelled, “She’s with me! She’s mine! Mine!”)
The tag match between Alpha Academy and The Vision was basic and predictable. Afterward, Bron Breakker and Theory looked to decimate Akira Tozawa, only for Otis to make the save. However, when he went to hit a Vader Bomb on Austin, Maxxine jumped on the apron and caressed Otis’ face, which turned him into a ball of mush… that Bron and Theory immediately powerbombed.
For this to make sense, you have to accept the retconning of Otis’ unrequited affection for Maxxine, and then accept that he’s such a pathetic man-child that he repeatedly gets duped by Dupri batting her eyes and gently touching his face or chest.
