4 Ups & 5 Downs From WWE SmackDown (15 May - Results & Review)

1. Hot Homecoming For Trick Willy

SmackDown opened with a fairly by the numbers opening promo segment between Trick Williams, Lil Yachty, The Miz and Kit Wilson, but that’s not a complaint. It’s amazing what a hot live crowd can do to elevate this sort of stuff, and South Carolina was on fire for Trick. He came across as an absolute star from start to finish, and it’s tough to deny that it was a vast improvement over the crappy Gingerbread Man stuff with Sami Zayn.

There was even a “Trick For President” sign around ringside.

The follow up match with Miz was functional too, but again, that isn’t meant to sound bad. The Miz is perfect for this sort of role, and it’s clear that WWE plan to strap a rocket to Williams as United States Champion. He was booked to be at least one step ahead of Miz at all times. Well, unless Kit was interfering from ringside. Wilson then found himself totally nullified by Yachty and some well-placed weapon shots to the spine.

There's a certain unique joy to be found when rising stars are in their home market and have some friends/family in attendance. You could see just how proud Trick felt as he was working in front of his parents. That's a memorable moment for the man. Well played, sir. This was how you bounce back from the tepid Gingerbread Man fluff in a hurry. Simple, straightforward, to the point and never anything but entertaining to watch.

Good stuff, people. Good stuff indeed.
