4. Mysterio, Page Have A Serviceable Match

WWE

Maybe there really is a cheat code to having Rey Mysterio wrestle on Raw.

Mysterio is still able to deliver a perfectly entertaining TV match on most nights with just about any opponent, but when that opponent is willing to eat a bit of crow along the way, it makes for an even better contest.

Monday night, that opponent was Ethan Page, who provided Rey with the right kind of opposition: a cocky heel not afraid to bump around like crazy for the Hall-of-Famer. Page controlled for a while, dropping Rey on the top turnbuckle with a sideslam, but Mysterio came back with a baseball slide splash to the floor and his usual array of sentons and crossbodies.

Mysterio overcame an impressive powerslam (Page yanked him up from the mat onto his shoulder for the move) to hit an Ultimo Dragon-esque hurricanrana, followed by a 619 and frog splash for the win.

Narratively, Rey got a modicum of revenge for Dragon Lee from last week, while putting All Ego in check. It really is just a conveyor belt of mid-carders feuding over the Intercontinental Championship, cycling amongst each other until it’s their turn to challenge Penta for the title. That’s why it’s hard to get excited about any of this. Instead, fans should just enjoy the match for what it was and not get too heavily invested just yet.
