5. Lyra Embraces The Crazy

There is still a lot of cringe to this Lyra Valkyria heel turn, but now that she’s actually returned to the ring, there is some leeway in how she’s presented backstage.

Sol Ruca learned that she will face Raquel Rodriguez for the Women’s Intercontinental Championship next week, and Iyo Sky came by to congratulate her. In slid Lyra, who assured Sol that she was there to congratulate her as well, and that their feud was “water under the bridge.”

Valkyria proceeded to lament that after Ruca had busted her face in their last match, Raquel was “gonna mess you up.” But Lyra had an idea: give her the IC title match and then she and Sol could run back their match, this time for the title (assuming Lyra were to win the match against Rodriguez). When Sol rejected that idea, Lyra countered that they should have a one-on-one match to determine who faces Raquel next.

Seeing Lyra as the manipulative, plotting, somewhat deranged villain is much better than just the crazed woman who didn’t shower. Iyo’s campy “she creeps me out” reaction was a bit too over-the-top simple, but this presentation of Lyra is much better. Just get her in the ring periodically so she isn’t simply a lurker spouting nonsense.
