If the luchador tournament to crown Roman Reigns’ next challenger for the World Heavyweight Championship closes strongly, then matches like these – and not the disappointing first-round contests – will be the ones that are remembered.

Rey Fenix and Dragon Lee delivered a fantastically fun, high-octane match that succeeded because it strayed so far from the typical WWE formula. Neither man maintained control for an extended period, as both traded rapid offense and constantly went for pins throughout. Fenix hit his Goodbye Amigo, a PK, and a triangle moonsault, only to miss a charge, allowing Dragon to snap off a rebound German suplex, a series of thrust kicks, and a tope to the floor.

Both men exchanged powerbomb variations and battled outside, where Dragon hit his incredible diving cannonball through the ropes to the announce desk. An Operation Dragon attempt was countered with a brainbuster. Lee’s Styles Clash got a two count. Rey’s rolling cutter also got two, but the Mexican Muscle Buster finally landed for the win.

Tremendous fun that didn’t give fans a chance to relax and settle in.
