5 Ups & 4 Downs From WWE SmackDown (April 2)
3. Finding His Edge
What a damn promo.
Edge's opening barrage of vitriol was laced with enough justification that he didn't come across as a full-blown heel. It had touches of evil though, and one line in particular almost stole the entire show; Edge said he looked in the mirror after attacking Daniel Bryan and Roman Reigns with that steel chair, and he liked what he saw.
His verbiage about being a guy who fought back against adversity only to be backed into a corner and realise he must do whatever it takes was sweet. There was meat on the bone to this promo, and it didn't shy away from some "bad" acts that Edge has perpetrated recently. That elevated the segment to genius.
This was the right response to last week's explosion. WWE piped in boos whenever Edge spoke about Bryan, but wisely kept them away when the Canadian was discussing Reigns. In short, they nailed everything about this rant.
