5. Gable’s Apology Tour Continues

WWE

WWE is walking a fine line with its current trajectory for Chad Gable. He could still be on course for a significant push, or he could be destined to fall back into midcard hell.

Monday, Gable called out Alpha Academy to personally apologize to each of them for the torment he put them through while he was leading that stable. He made heartfelt appeals to all three of them, but Maxxine Dupri rebuffed his overtures, saying she remembered every little thing he did to them, and how everything – including the apology – was about him.

The Alphas then walked out on Gable, leaving him alone.

While it’s good character development from a consistency standpoint to have Chad Gable try to make amends with Alpha Academy, there’s a very real danger that him being ensconced with a lower-card act at this tenuous point in his push could act like an anchor. Case in point, Gable is set to face JD McDonagh next week after Judgment Day mocked him, so he’s already being pulled away from the Intercontinental Championship scene.

Now, if Maxxine is indeed drifting toward The Vision via Austin Theory, and this leads to Gable facing Bron Breakker, it could be a worthwhile angle. But if the end result is a reunion with the Alphas and Chad’s just leading a stable of lower-card geeks, then he’s just right back where he started.

Call this a conditional “up” this week. If Gable continues to trend toward midcard hell, then his angle will slide further into the negative.
