Hometown hero Bayley vs. Alexa Bliss was a good watch.
Bayley seemed to be out to prove a point here, and one gets the feeling this pair could put on watchable fare in their sleep. They're definitely 2 of the bigger female stars of the past generation, and their combined experience showed throughout this scrap; Bayley and Bliss never rushed, and they kept the outside interference from Lyra Valkyria and Charlotte Flair minimal until the finish.
No, it's not the greatest match fans will ever witness, or anything hyperbolic like that, but it was a neat little TV bout and sometimes that’s all you need. Besides, there isn’t much gloss needed for the Women’s Tag Fatal-4-Way at ‘Mania anyway. Joe Tessitore and Wade Barrett packaged things neatly by suggesting that everyone will need eyes on the back of their heads come next weekend (which explained the Bliss roll-up finish - Bayley took her eye off the ball for a slight second and it cost her).
The fact WWE didn't run back yet another Nia Jax and Lash Legend jog in for the beatdown spot was a positive too. They don't need to do that every single time, after all. 2 of their babyface challengers got to show up and show out on Friday, and they didn't phone it in when they easily could have. That's when you know you're dealing with true professionals.
Of course, giving 100% should be the bare minimum, but something clicked for Bayley and Bliss on SmackDown. This bodes well for the multi-team match at 'Mania, especially when they'll be tasked with covering for The Bellas (whether Nikki is injured or not).
