6. Oba To The Rescue

WWE

Aside from the obvious disclaimers that this rubber match from Brock Lesnar and Oba Femi shouldn’t even be taking place (or at least should be Oba going for a clean sweep with the world title around his waist), you have to take your cap off to Femi for his promo Monday night.

After Paul Heyman delivered a mediocre promo, Femi strutted down to the ring, way closer than the 100 feet the alleged restraining order restricted him, and quickly manhandled the “cops.” Brock and Heyman retreated up the aisle to laugh while Oba grabbed a mic.

Femi asked who was next to Heyman, where was the Beast? “He used to run this place; now he just runs away.” He retconned his decision to forgo his world title match at SummerSlam by noting that Lesnar probably would have just cost him the championship anyway (A for effort).

Then Oba ranted at Brock about how inside Hell in a Cell, he can’t run from him, building to a crescendo while fans cheered. It was a strong closing that made it clear that, regardless of the shoddy booking, Femi clearly wants it.

He’s been tossed into a rubber match after foolishly giving up a world title match (in storyline), but the fire Oba breathes into the mic nearly equals his explosiveness in the ring, and that fire makes you forget how nonsensical this booking truly is – you just want to see Femi murk Lesnar and send him back to his deer stand in Canada.
