8 Gimmick Matches You'll NEVER See In WWE Again
7. First Blood
One of the most heavily criticized elements of WWE's product in its current guise is the sheer volume of sponsorship revenue the company incorporates into its product. These sponsors hold such a grip on WWE as a whole that even Vince McMahon's firing only occurred after Slim Jim threatened to pull their sponsorship of the 2024 Royal Rumble.
This is worth pointing out when it comes to the concept of a 'First Blood' match.
WWE isn't quite the PG product it was for the majority of the 'Ruthless Aggression' and reality eras. Nevertheless, there is no way that a corporate monolith like WWE would risk the wrath of sponsors and the stacks of cash they receive from them by resurrecting a no-holds-barred match in which the aim is to make your opponent bleed first.
As it stands, Hell In A Cell is the match type used by WWE to pay off its most bitter feuds. This is probably a sensible thing given WWE's more family-focused product. The last 'First Blood' match happened between John Cena and JBL at One Night Stand in 2008 some 18 years ago, so the smart money is on never seeing a 'First Blood' effort in WWE again.
