Another Big-Name WWE Star's Contract Expires In 2022
2022 is shaping up to be an interesting her for big-time free agents...
Jeff Hardy was recently interviewed by BT Sport, speaking on a number of topics relating to his professional wrestling career, including the new WWE contract he signed back in September 2020.
Hardy claimed that he agreed to a two-year deal with the promotion on the condition that they bring back his 'No More Words' theme, which happened earlier this year. If those two years commenced from the date of signing rather than serving as an extension on top of an existing deal, Hardy's contract will be up in September 2022.
Here's how Jeff unpacked it to BT Sport (h/t Fightful):-
"That was the deal when I re-signed. I was like, 'I'll sign for two years as long as I get my old theme back called No More Words.' We came to find that they owned the song so there was no reason I couldn't. My first night in front of a live audience, I got it back and it's just like it never left. It was so powerful. I think [WWE] realized, 'Yeah, that was a good decision.'"
Hardy actually revealed that he had signed the deal in a separate conversation with BT Sport from back in September 2020. PWInsider's Mike Johnson then reported in May 2021 that Jeff's new deal was for 2-3 years, with a source claiming he had "a good chunk of time left" with the promotion.
A number of notable WWE contracts are due to expire over the coming months, with Kevin Owens, Johnny Gargano, and Kyle O'Reilly amongst the potential free agents.
