Bret Hart Feels Disrespected After SummerSlam Snub: "No Appreciation For Anything I Did" (WWE News)
Bret Hart was invited to SummerSlam, then told there was no seat.
Never shy to say what he really thinks, Bret Hart has recently talked about how he feels WWE doesn't have a true appreciation of what he did during his time with the company and beyond.
Speaking at Vaughan Con this past weekend in Ontario, and since posted as a video on Instagram, Bret discussed a wide array of topics, noting how today's wrestlers feel more like actors pretending to be wrestlers, and bemoaning a lack of storytelling and how wrestlers rarely work body parts these days.
As the Hitman continued, he noted how he doesn't feel WWE appreciates him, pinpointing a particular moment from this month's SummerSlam.
"I went to SummerSlam. They invited me down this year for WWE and told me they wanted me to be in the crowd, then they told me, once I got there, that they didn’t have any seats. But I noticed that Kevin Nash got a seat. So, I just sort of know, I finally realised that they don’t fully appreciate me. Even after Hulk’s passing, there’s no appreciation for anything I did. There's only three wreslers left alive that were main event wrestlers in the first ten WrestleManias. Sgt. Slaughter is one, the Million Dollar Man is the other one. I'm not planning on going anywhere for at least another 30 years."
As alluded to there by the Excellence of Execution, Ted DiBiase closed out WrestleMania IV against 'Macho Man' Randy Savage in the finals of a tournament for the vacant WWF Title - which Savage won - whilst Sgt. Slaughter lost the WWE Title to Hulk Hogan in the main event of WrestleMania VII. For Bret Hart, he faced Yokozuna in the main event of both WrestleMania IX and WrestleMania X.
While Hart mentioned "wrestlers", Mr. T was a part of the inaugural WrestleManias main event, and Bob Orton Jr. was in the corner of Roddy Piper and Paul Orndorff at that event. Both T and Cowboy Bob are still with us.
To the wider point that Bret is making, you could see why he'd be a little irked at being invited to MetLife Stadium, only to then be told there's no seat for him. Even more so, when Hart is someone many fans view as Mr. SummerSlam, thanks to his legendary cage match against Owen Hart in 1994, classic Intercontinental Championship bouts against Mr. Perfect in 1991 and the British Bulldog in 1992, his memorable World Title win over the Undertaker in 1997, or fantastic tag bouts against the Brain Busters in 1989 and Demolition in 1990 and, to a lesser extent, in 1988.
And yes, for those wondering, this Vaughan Con panel did once again see Bret Hart make a nice little dig at Bill Goldberg when it comes to how you're not supposed to injure your opponents.
