Having not wrestled for two months now, WWE's Carmelo Hayes has got people talking about his future and current status.

On Hayes' X profile, the former United States Champion has blacked out his profile picture, leading many to speculate about what this means. Stirring the pot on this topic, MJF has also taken to Instagram to post an old photo of the two wrestling during Carmelo's Christian Casanova days on the independent scene, which, of course, has had fans pondering whether the two could lock horns again at some point down the line.

Safe to say, it's been an up-and-down year for Carmelo Hayes in 2026, starting the year as the US Champion and a regular on TV, before then becoming a more sporadic presence after losing that title to Sami Zayn in March. Melo would get further shots at that belt, at qualifying for the Elimination Chamber, and being involved in the King of the Ring tournament, but he'd forever come up short in those quests.

As for when Hayes was last in action, that was on the 14th August edition of SmackDown, where he lost to Baron Corbin. Since then, the hugely talented 32-year-old has been left spinning his wheels, all as fans clamour for him to be featured in a more prominent way.

To circle back to MJF, he and Carmelo faced off in 2017 for Northeast Wrestling - a match won by the Salt of the Earth - in an event headlined by Cody Rhodes defeating Bobby Fish. Aside from that, the only other time Max and Melo have squared off was in a 2019 six-way pandemonium bout for Chaotic Wrestling that was won by future NXT man Josh Briggs.
