Every WWE King Of The Ring Winner Ranked From Worst To Best
9. Owen Hart (1994)
Owen Hart’s high placement on this list, despite never winning a World title, has a lot to do with how his King of the Ring victory impacted his career.
In truth, Owen got a fair amount of mileage out of his 1994 KOTR win, following in his brother’s footsteps – Bret Hart had won the previous two tournaments – but also emerging from Bret’s shadow at the same time.
Owen defeated Bret cleanly at WrestleMania X earlier that year, then won KOTR two months later, taking on the moniker “King of Harts.” Those big wins set Owen up for a WWF World Championship match against Bret at SummerSlam, which he lost inside a steel cage.
Undeterred, Owen continued to feud with his brother, even costing Bret his World title at Survivor Series when he convinced their mother to throw in the towel against Bob Backlund.
The younger Hart would team with Yokozuna and become WWF Tag Team Champions the following spring, and Owen would continue to hang around the upper mid-card for the remainder of his career. But his King of the Ring win would play well into his ongoing feud with his brother/World champion, so that merits strong placement here.
