Every WWE Release Of 2021 - Where Are They Now? (Five Years Later)

9. John Morrison

Then: Jim Morrison lookalike John Morrison was a welcome return when he went back to WWE in 2019. He'd initially left the company in 2011, and there was a feeling of 'what could've been' with JoMo. So, many fans were chuffed to see him have another crack after years of stellar work in Lucha Underground, TNA etc.

Morrison was chiefly used as comedic foil for The Miz throughout his run. For reference, that included another WWE Title reign for Miz, but laughs got in the way of everything else (including a Universal Title tilt opposite Braun Strowman). By November 2021, WWE pointed to budget cuts as a reason to release the future Johnny TV.

Now: You might be startled by Johnny's new look if you haven't been paying close attention to anything he's been doing post-WWE. He lost a 'Hair vs. Hair' match to Ángel de Oro in late-February 2026 and was thus forced to shave his head.

TV has leaned into his shorn locks though. It must be ever so slightly odd for him after a few decades of swooshing his hair around for WWE's slow motion camera style, but the ex-Morrison told Chris Van Vliet recently that he's digging the new aesthetic.

He started making appearances for AEW in 2022 and later signed on the dotted line to become a full time part of the All Elite roster. Again, he's been played for laughs, but wrestling in ROH and CMLL has enabled Johnny to enjoy himself in more serious matches too. That's good, because he's admitted he feels underused and overlooked in the promotion.

This 46 year old is still going strong, and he's in unreal physical condition.
