12. WCW Had No Idea Who One Of Their Wrestlers Was

WCW is rivalled only by TNA as the single dumbest pro wrestling company ever.

In WCW, a wrestler was once counted out of a Falls Count Anywhere match. A No Disqualification match was once thrown out. Goldberg once refused to “go up” for a Kevin Nash powerbomb. Tony Schiavone once literally told the fans that a beloved wrestler was about to win what had been reestablished as the biggest prize in the industry, on free TV, and thought that the fanbase would remain loyal - this, on the night of the Finger Poke of Doom, when that loyalty was broken forever.

Wrestling was so hot during the Monday Night Wars that nudie magazines printed columns about it. Bryan Alvarez penned ‘Mat Max!’ for Penthouse. In one editorial, he was asked to list every single woman contracted to WCW and the WWF with accompanying images. He could not locate any pictures of Marie Lograsso who, for a brief time, portrayed the love interest of Reno to the chagrin of her brother Big Vito. Then Reno and Vito were revealed to be brothers, meaning Vito wanted to hear his own flesh and blood fart through a walkie-talkie.

Having had no luck sourcing images with freelance photographers, Alvarez, per the February 5, 2001 issue of the Wrestling Observer, reached out to WCW directly.

Not only did they not have any images of Marie, who was trained in the in-house Power Plant facility and appeared sporadically across several months of programming, the department Alvarez contacted had no idea who she was.

WCW didn’t just not know how to book its wrestlers; they didn’t even know who its wrestlers were!
