The ongoing Roman Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar feud will likely extend beyond their upcoming match at WWE Day 1.

The duo are set to collide for the Universal Championship on the New Year’s Day 2022 pay-per-view in Atlanta, Georgia, as confirmed on last week’s episode of SmackDown, though the Wrestling Observer/Figure Four Online note that this isn’t likely to be the endpoint. Instead, this bout will be the latest in a longer series between the duo.

Lesnar and Reigns last wrestled at Crown Jewel 2021 on 21 October. There’s currently no word on when WWE will book the third match in this latest feud, though Royal Rumble 2022 (29 January) and WrestleMania 38 (2 and 3 April) would be the likeliest candidates.

Dave Meltzer has previously reported that WWE planned on stretching the Lesnar vs. Reigns rivalry through to WrestleMania.

Roman successfully defended his Universal Championship against Sami Zayn on last week’s episode of SmackDown. This was Brock’s return show, having had his indefinite suspension overturned by WWE management the previous week. Having buddied up with Sami for most of the night, Lesnar obliterated Zayn to enable Reigns’ squash, maintaining Roman’s run with the belt for Day 1.
